Avery Elyse Ballard has grown up in the Houston dance and theatre world. She trained with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts for twelve years getting to work under world class instructors such as Luis Fuente, Lynette Mason Gregg, Misha Bart, Paige Wheat, Heather Steele, Cara Shanks, Caitlin Cannon Fagan, and Xavier Alcala Herrera. Avery danced with Bay Area Houston Balletand Theatre for ten seasons, performing in many productions such as The Nutcracker, Dracula and Cinderella. She also had the opportunity to perform in various musicals through the RAFA/BAHBT programs such as Hairspray (Penny), Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Shrek the Musical (Fiona), Singing in the Rain (Lina Lamont) and Once Upon a Mattress (Winnifred), working with directors such as Kevin Cahoon, Michael Tapley, Travis Coombs and Dontee Kiehn. Avery attended Clear Springs High School from 2012-2016 and was actively involved in both her choir and theatre programs. She was involved in her musicals all four years both as a member of the cast, but also as the dance captain. Those shows include Curtains (Bambi), Urinetown (Dancer), The Music Man (Eulalie Shinn), and Seussical the Musical (Gertrude). In 2014, Clear Springs’ production of Urinetown won nine Tommy Tune Awards, including best musical. She choreographed her choir’s pop show all four years, as well as her musical theatre showcases. In 2015 she had the opportunity to direct and choreograph the full length musical, Cabaret. Avery spent the summer in Austin, Texas as a member of the company of Summer Stock Austin. This organization is through the Long Center, and they produce numerous shows every summer. Avery will be a member of the dance ensemble of both Annie Get Your Gun (directed by Scott Thompson) and Spamalot (directed by Ginger Morris). She also had the opportunity to work on the marketing and public relations team for the Long Center. Avery spent her spare moments of the summer training with the incredible tap instructor Acia Gray at Tapestry. Avery was a faculty member at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. She was a tap, musical theatre and ballet instructor. She also was the coordinator for their training/performance troupe, The Preludes in 2013. She was also the ballet instructor for Star Steppers in 2017.
