Michelle Coomer

Michelle Coomer was born and raised in Southern California. She started dancing at the age of 3. As a child Michelle trained in jazz, ballet, lyrical, and gymnastics. She enjoyed performing and competing in many competitions including Showstoppers, Starpower, Dance Masters of America, Youth America Grand Prix along with many others. At the age of twelve, Michelle decided to focus on classical ballet. She attended the summer programs of The School of American Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and The Houston Ballet. At the age of sixteen, Michelle was asked to train at the Houston Ballet Academy’s year round program. During that time Michelle competed in The USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi and received the Heinz-Bosl Foundation award. At 18, Michelle joined the Houston Ballet. She performed many principal roles including Snow Queen in The Nutcracker and Gamzatti in La Bayadere. After 9 wonderful seasons with the Houston Ballet Michelle decided to retire to focus on starting a family. Michelle is married to current Houston Ballet soloist Christopher Coomer.
